WELCOME to the DeSana Middle School Band! We are looking for you to be a part of our award-winning band.

We are beginning our 9th year, and our band has accomplished some pretty amazing things. All 4 of our concert bands earned SUPERIOR ratings at the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation and our SYMPHONIC Bands, for EIGHT straight years, have earned STRAIGHT SUPERIOR RATINGS at the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation.  Our students continue to participate in the District Honor Band as well as attending solo and ensemble festival.  This year, 103 of our band students performed solos at the solo festival and 93 EARNED the top rating of SUPERIOR!   This is a huge accomplishment and a true sign that we are a terrific group of young musicians.

By now, all students should have received information electronically.  I am hoping that we will have a great turnout for our 6th grade band for the 2024-2025 school year-and the only way we can do that is through YOU!

You need not have ANY experience.  We will teach you how to play, count and read music.  As a beginner, you will have 2-3 concerts that you will perform in and from the start to the end of the year, you will be amazed at what you can learn!

A brief history of our program. In our first year as a school we had 86 beginners, in year 2 we had 104.  Year 3 brought us 115 beginning students and year 4 we had 135 AMAZING 6th grade band students and year 6 we had 126  6th graders and 53 7th graders in our beginning band program. Year 7 brought us 138 beginning band students and year 8 169 beginners. This year we are beating that record with nearly 200 in our 6th grade beginning band.  This past year, our advanced 7th and 8th grade Symphonic Bands traveled to Orlando to the MUSIC USA FESTIVAL at Universal Studios.  We had amazing performances and when all was said and done, the 8th grade won GRAND CHAMPION and our 7th Grade Symphonic Band won 2nd Place. While in the DeSana band, you will have the opportunity to travel as well. 

When school starts, we will begin the process of choosing instruments.  You will be allowed to try as many as you like until we find the one that suits you, and you are comfortable with.  We are always excited about beginning this process because each of you will have a different interest-but you will be successful with your chosen musical instrument.
