• 7th Grade Life Science

DeSana’s 7th-grade curriculum is dedicated to an in-depth exploration of life science. This engaging journey begins with foundational concepts and gradually expands to encompass more complex topics. Our first unit emphasizes the importance of safety in the science lab, ensuring that students understand proper procedures and protocols to conduct experiments safely. Following this, we delve into the Classification of Organisms, where students learn about the diversity of life forms and the systems used to categorize them.

The study of Cells and Cell Processes is next, providing students with a microscopic view of life, exploring cell structure, function, and the vital processes that sustain living organisms. We then shift our focus to the Human Body Systems, examining how different organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis and support life.

Genetics is another key unit, where students will explore the principles of heredity, DNA structure, and genetic variation. This leads us to the concept of Change Over Time, where we investigate the mechanisms of evolution and the evidence supporting it.

Finally, the curriculum culminates in the study of Ecology, where students gain an understanding of ecosystems, environmental interactions, and the impact of human activities on the natural world. An exciting highlight of the year is the opportunity for students to dissect a frog, providing a hands-on experience that brings their studies to life and fosters a deeper appreciation for biological sciences.
