National Honor Society is an elite group of students who have been selected to represent their school based on four pillars - Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These students must hold at least a 3.8 GPA and complete the Potential Member packet to be considered. A Faculty Council makes the final decision on membership, and an induction takes place in the fall. Once inducted, members are expected to pay a $20 annual membership fee (as well as a one-time induction fee), attend monthly meetings, and complete 10 hours of community service per semester to remain in good standing. Officers are chosen each April and lead for one year.

What/who is the faculty council?
Posted by:The Faculty Council is made up of 5 teachers at East Forsyth. These teachers are selected by the principal to make the decisions pertaining to membership, probation, and dismissal. Mrs. Wright and Mr. Tomlinson facilitate the discussion, but have no part in the decision-making process. All decisions made by the Faculty Council are final.

Where can I find a service log?
Posted by:Hard copies of service logs are always available outside of Mrs. Wright's classroom (1267).

What about Dues?
Posted by:Dues are paid annually. Current members pay $20 to help pay for our national dues. New members pay an added fee of $15 for their induction. We will try to add a fundraiser each year as we build our account to off-set fees for senior regalia, field-trips, etc.

What are required meetings?
Posted by:Members are required to attend General Meetings. They are held in the Media Center at 7:30am on the first Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise posted). According to the Bronco Chapter By-laws, 2 meetings can be missed without being placed on probation. If you will miss a meeting, you must email eastbroncosnhs@gmail.com prior to the start of a meeting.

What is the difference between "good standing" and "probation"
Posted by:Each semester, members of the National Honor Society are evaluated to determine if they are in "Good Standing" or "On Probation." When a member is in "good standing," it means that they have followed the 4 standards of NHS - as explained at the induction ceremony (Character, Scholarship, Leadership, Service). If a student is placed on probation, it is based on a finding that the Faculty Council has been made aware of, and they are sent an official letter with stipulations that must be met by the start of the next semester to be back on "good standing" status. If a student does not meet the requirements set forth by the Faculty Council stated in the letter, according to the Bronco Chapter By-laws, they will be dismissed and are no longer a member of the National Honor Society. Therefore, they will not be recognized at honors night, graduation, and are not eligible for NHS scholarships.

How many service hours are required per year?

When are new members chosen for NHS?
Posted by:Potential Member packets are available online and are to be completed and turned into Mrs. Wright by October 7, 2024 (no exceptions allowed for this deadline). The Faculty Council will send out Acceptance/Non-Acceptance letters mid/late October. The Induction Ceremony will be held in November. *Dates will be given in the acceptance letters.
