- Is Your Child Too Sick For School?
-
Please review the following guidelines from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, CDC as well as our Student Handbook as decisions are being made regarding sending your child to school when he or she is feeling ill. Many viruses are highly contagious and spread quickly from student to student in a classroom setting.
If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep your child at home: temperature (100.4 or higher), diarrhea, vomiting, persistent cough, reddened eyes with yellowish discharge, unknown rash and fever.
We all know the importance of perfect attendance at school. We also know that children who are sick are not at their optimal learning capacity and are spreading contagious germs to other children and teachers. Listed below are county guidelines that we follow. There will be strict adherance to these guidelines.
Children should be fever free (without the use of medications), vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours (a full day) before returning to school. Students that have pink eye will need to stay home for 24 hours once the eye medication has started. If a student has sensitivities to foods that make them vomit, I will need a doctor's note stating that, otherwise vomiting will be treated as an illness.
Let's work together to make a happy, healthy environment for your child.
