What is a Local School Council?

The Forsyth County Schools has a strong tradition of local school governance involving staff, parent and community partners. Additionally, I have always been an advocate of open information and participatory governance. Originally called Local School Advisory Councils (LSACs), FCS converted to Local School Councils (LSCs) in 2000 under Georgia's the A+ Education Reform Act. 

What is their composition?

The SFM Local School Council will be comprised of a minimum of eight council members, including the principal, at least two certified teachers elected by teachers, four parents (who make up the majority of the council, with at least two being businesspersons) and the Senior Class President. All of these offices and duties are outlined in the bylaws of the LHS LSC.

What does the LSC do?

The South Forsyth Middle School LSC is an advisory board that provides recommendations to the school principal and FC Board of Education. The SFM LSC will meet at least four times a year annually. All meetings, corresponding minutes and bylaws are open to the public.

When and where does LSC meet?
