Meeting with college reps is so beneficial! You get to learn more about schools from the experts themselves, learn about their admissions decision process, and get all of your questions answered! To see who is coming and how to register, visit our College Rep Visits Calendar page and/or stop by the CCC (room 653). 

Juniors and seniors may tour prospective colleges during the school year for no more than 4 days per year. Students must bring documentation from the school indicating that they have visited the school. The visit will be considered as a field trip for attendance purposes. In order for our students to take full advantage of this privilege, students must complete the form attached  HERE and return it to the attendance office.

Counselors and teachers need your senior profile to know all about you, beyond what is on your transcript! This information is critical to a great letter of recommendation. Take your time with your profile, be thorough, and share what you are passionate about!

 2023-2024 Common App essay prompts

• Visit the college's website and look for "apply now/freshman application/undergraduate admissions." You will be re-routed to their preferred application platform.
• Many (but not all) colleges use The Common App which allows students to complete one application that can be sent to multiple colleges.
• Pay close attention to the email addresses for your recommenders (counselors, teachers, etc.).
• Make sure to give your recommender at least 2-3 weeks to fill out your recommendation. Don't forget to give your recommenders a copy of your Senior Profile!

• Stay organized and pay attention to deadlines.
• Colleges have priority deadlines to be eligible for certain scholarships- check for those dates!
• Be aware of the following deadlines and what they mean for your college:
  • Regular Decision
  • Early Decision- Binding
  • Early Action- Non-Binding

• Colleges can receive your test scores electronically through both the SAT website and/or the ACT website. There is a fee to send your scores through both websites.
• Click HERE for instructions on how to send your ACT scores to colleges.
• Click HERE for instructions on how to send your SAT scores to colleges.
• If the school is test-optional, check to see if they have other document requirements in place of submitting test scores. (For example, the University of South Carolina requires a graded essay from English class or 3 other exam scores from AP or IB if you don't submit test scores).
• Technical schools such as Gwinnett Tech or Chattahoochee Tech will accept an Accuplacer Placement Test score for admission in lieu of taking the SAT or ACT. 

• ALL transcripts are sent electronically via Parchment.com. 
  • Make an account
  • Select "South Forsyth High School" as your school
  • Click "Order"
    
  • Select your recipients/colleges that you would like your transcript to go to, pay, and make sure it says the order is complete.
• For Common Application- once you have your Common App ID and have requested your counselor complete your recommendation via Common App (by entering our email address in the FERPA and Recommenders sections), then go to Parchment and enter "Common App" as the recipient. Follow all prompts until it shows your order as complete. This will automatically attach your transcript to your Common Application account. 
• You may also order a physical copy to be mailed or emailed to you for scholarship or insurance purposes. 

• Check your application status through the college's status check portal to keep track of what is missing.
• It might take a few weeks for the college to link your account to your application materials (transcript, test scores, etc.).
• When necessary, email the admissions office for specific questions related to your application or application status.

2. Select "Create an Account" for first time users or "Forgot Username"/"Forgot Password" for account retrieval
3. Your HOPE GPA is under “Trending” on the right-hand side of the screen
4. Do you have the required 4 HOPE RIGOR courses? 
5. If you are shooting for Zell Miller Scholarship, make sure you have submitted your test scores using the instructions linked HERE. 
6. You must have a social security number on file with SFHS and in your GA Futures profile (when setting up your account) to access your HOPE GPA
7. If your social security number is not on file with SFHS, bring your card to the counseling office for Mrs. McKinzie to scan and upload

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the main application used to apply for federal or state-supported financial aid to pay for a college education. Completion of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) also serves as the application for the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship. The FAFSA can be completed after October 1 of students' senior year.  If you are not planning to complete the FAFSA, students can complete the GSFAPPS (Georgia Student Finance APP) on www.gafutures.org.  Applications must be completed before the student graduates from high school.
