(Jan. 23-30) Make Your Elective Requests
January 23 @ 9:00 AM (OPENS) - January 30 @ 4:00 PM (CLOSES)
Elective Requests are NOT first come, first serve, so there is no rush. Please take your time and discuss as a family to make thoughtful selections. You can make changes to your selections at any point while the Elective Requests window is open.
1 - Student/Parent Portal > More > Course Registration > South Forsyth High School > Review which courses you were recommended for by your teachers (listed as required).
2 - At the top of the screen you will notice a percent complete bar and Units (xx/xx). You will need to select courses until the percent complete bar is green and shows 28/28 units.
3 - At the bottom you will find a blue box labeled "Add Course". From there, search to find the elective course(s) you are requesting to take and click "Add Request" with each. If "Course History" pops up, you have already taken or you are currently taking the course - please make another choice.
4 - If you are unable to find a certain elective, there is probably an application associated with the course that must be completed, and/or there are pre-requisites for that course you must complete first. In the meantime, you will need to choose from electives you are able to select.
5 - High school scheduling is like putting together a puzzle. Not all courses are offered every period of the day, and there are legal limits to the number of students allowed in each class. As a result, when building high school schedules for 2,700+ students, we cannot guarantee students will get their first choice(s) of electives. Therefore, it is vital that students choose at least 3 Alternate (A) electives they are willing to take. If no Alternates (A) are added by the student during this time, if needed, we will have to randomly place you in a class(es) that is available.
6 - Once complete, select the "Back" arrow at the top. You will be able to view all courses requested and your alternates.
-
(Jan. 23-30) Submit Your Waiver Requests
January 23 @ 9:00 AM (OPENS) - January 30 @ 4:00 PM (CLOSES)
*The information provided in this form (January 23-30) is what we use to make decisions regarding next year's master schedule. Therefore, it is vital that students indicate to us their intentions/requests for any of the below reasons so we will have accurate numbers as we plan the master schedule. If the information requested below is not provided during this time period (January 23-30), we are less likely to be able to provide a seat for you in the class that you want.*
Waiver Requests are NOT first come, first serve, so there is no rush. Please take your time and discuss as a family before completing the Waiver Request Form. Waiver Requests are NOT processed immediately, so please be patient. If you received an automated email from Google that your Waiver Request Form submission was received, then rest assured that we have it, and we will get to it as soon as we are able. Multiple entries of the same request will lead to slower processing time. Multiple entries regarding the same course with conflicting information (indicating change of mind) can lead to confusion and processing error. So again, please take your time and try to submit only 1 submission per course you are requesting to make a change to.
Student/Parent Portal > More > Course Registration > South Forsyth High School > Review which courses you were recommended for by your teachers (listed as required)
1 - Complete the Waiver Request Form if you are requesting to waive into a course you were not recommended for.
2 - Complete the Waiver Request Form if you are requesting to waive out of a course you were recommended for.
3 - Complete the Waiver Request Form if you plan to take a SUMMER 2025 course via FV/GAVS (virtual), or Dual Enrollment in order to either free-up space in your schedule for a different class, or in order to take the next course in the sequence.
*As a reminder, per FCS Update to Self-Pay Course Credits, starting Summer 2025, Class of 2028 (Rising 10th Grade) students can only add 1.0 self-pay course from the summer to their transcript. Please keep this in mind if you are completing the Waiver Request Form regarding an online FV/GAVS summer course. This new update is not applicable to Class of 2027 (Rising 11th Grade) or Class of 2026 (Rising 12th Grade) students.
*Please note you must also complete any required steps to actually register for these non-SFHS classes when the registration steps/dates becomes available for each (see "Optional: How to Register for..." section below). Simply submitting this information in the Waiver Request Form will not register you for those changes.
4 - Complete the Waiver Request Form if you intend to change the educational setting of a certain course as part of your 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR schedule from an in-person class at SFHS to virtual or Dual Enrollment.
*Please note you must also complete any required steps to actually register for these non-SFHS classes when the registration steps/dates becomes available for each (see "Optional: How to Register for..." section below). Simply submitting this information in the Waiver Request Form will not register you for those changes.
Thank you for reading all of the vital information above.
